AMOREPACIFIC STORIES X Artist Limoo

'Korean beauty,' found in the small moments of everyday life, is a source of uplifting inspiration for us all. We hope these warm yet special stories, recorded with artists each month, will reach the heart of each and every one of our global customers, blossoming into their own new beauty (Create New Beauty).

#Theme

In July, when greenery reaches its deepest hue, the season strides boldly into the heart of summer. The lush greenery rippling in the breeze and the increasingly vivid sunlight bring nature's vitality into sharp focus. This month's AMOREPACIFIC STORIES feature captures the green beauty that summer creates through the scenery of OSULLOC's 'Tea House Tea Factory' at Jeju's Hannam Tea Garden. Experience the special scenery of Jeju unfolding around the Tea House from illustrator Limoo's perspective.

#Artist Interview

Q. We're curious about your personal process for completing a piece.

Rather than planning everything in advance, I always carry my iPad and draw and color as I go. I prefer to skip the sketching stage and draw spontaneously, since I believe the inspiration that strikes in the moment leads to better work. I prioritize bold lines and harmonious color over detailed depiction or texture. This allows me to convey the essential beauty of the scene I'm depicting in a way that's both simple and vivid.

Q. How did this piece begin? Please tell us about it.

This piece began with the newly opened 'Tea House Tea Factory' at Jeju's Hannam Tea Garden. As I painted it, I vividly recalled the coolness I felt walking through OSULLOC's lush green tea fields, the deep fragrance in the air, and the fresh green tea desserts I'd tasted. I also wanted this piece to capture the refreshing green hues of early-summer Jeju. I hope the sense of ease I felt in that moment comes through for readers as well.

Q. What message did you want to convey through this piece?

I wanted to convey a sense of 'happiness' and 'ease.' Our daily lives are always busy and hectic. I wanted to offer a moment, even if brief, to pause and catch your breath. If this piece lets you enjoy a nostalgic journey through your own memories of Jeju and moments of happiness, that would be enough for me.

Q. What impression did you take from Amorepacific’s ‘Create New Beauty’?

I was struck by the idea of pursuing a beauty that brings outer and inner into harmony, one that remains unchanged even as time passes. I think OSULLOC, which I featured in this piece, is a perfect example of that. Many people now enjoy tea culture quite naturally, but I believe that shift came from OSULLOC's ongoing effort, together with Amorepacific's, to promote the appeal of green tea. Rather than settling for simple tea, they're completely reinventing tea culture itself through sophisticated desserts and sleek design. Isn't this the true meaning of 'Create New Beauty'? That's exactly what this is: a beauty company that runs the OSULLOC brand, discovers new value in something familiar, and shares it with the world.

Q. What does ‘your own beauty’ mean to you?

Rather than constantly chasing fast-changing trends, I think the very process of discovering, one by one, what truly suits me is 'beauty that is uniquely mine.' The same goes for my artwork. I think every day about how to express my own perspective in the way that feels most true to myself, and what beautiful value it might offer the world. I feel proud when ‘my own beauty' comes through in a piece, and when that work reaches people's hearts.

Q. Is there a habit you consider important when it comes to cultivating your own beauty?

Given the nature of my work, I spend a lot of time sitting, so my posture can easily suffer. To counter that, I regularly stretch and exercise to keep my shoulders and back straight. I've also noticed that how I spend time alone seems to affect how I come across when I'm with other people. For example, since I work alone most of the time, it occurred to me that my expression might start to stiffen, so I've made an effort to keep a natural smile and expression even in everyday moments. After all, it's these small habits, built when I’m alone, that ultimately shape who I am!

Q. We’d love to hear your thoughts on working with AMOREPACIFIC STORIES.

Ever since my university days, I've studied design trends by looking at Amorepacific's work. So when I was offered this collaboration, I was thrilled. Getting to work with a company that leads the beauty industry globally is a great honor for me as an illustrator.

Q. Do you have any words you’d like to share with those who are searching for their own beauty?

I believe every one of us is beautiful. What matters most is the process of finding what suits you and feels most natural. And since the moments we're happiest are the most beautiful of all, I hope you'll set down the weight of everyday life for a little while with my artwork, and let yourselves recall happy times and memories.
