Amorepacific HERA MC Team Dong-eun Kim
There's a unique energy that radiates from eyes brimming with curiosity. Through five significant items from the past, present, and future of Dong-eun Kim, a member of the HERA MC team, we introduce a story that intertwines work and life.
Hello, I’m Dong-eun Kim, responsible for creating content and managing social channels for the HERA MC team. I’ve accumulated 11 years of experience abroad—3 years in New Zealand, two years in Australia, two years in China, and four years in the United States—before working as a graphic designer in Korea. I’m primarily in charge of planning content and handling overseas communication for Amorepacific's HERA TikTok channel.
My Real Hashtag?
#Watcher
After contemplating the five items that define me, I’ve realized that they might be collectively described by the word ‘Watcher.’ My external hard drive, which records the past; my hair tie, which helps me focus on the present; and my notebook, which plans for the future, represent my relationship with time. Meanwhile, my lip tint, which boosts my confidence, and my phone, which keeps me attuned to the world’s changes, reflect my attitude towards the passage of time. The word ‘watcher,’ in its dual meaning of both a timepiece and an observer, encapsulates these aspects of my life. Thus, my real hashtag would be #watcher.
#My Power Source Archive: External Hard Drive
I’ve selected five significant objects in my life; the first is my external hard drive. As a former designer, it houses all the projects I’ve worked on and personal files I’ve meticulously organized. It’s my most cherished possession. I even back up photos taken on my phone by date. Everything is stored here- from school report cards to freelance work— essentially a repository of ‘my past.’ Whenever I’m stuck at the ideation stage of a new project, I often revisit old works to find new inspiration.
This external hard drive was particularly valuable when I launched the HERA TikTok channel. Just two months after I joined the company, I was handed the responsibility of managing the channel, which had a mere eight followers—most of whom were my team members. Feeling overwhelmed, I browsed through my hard drive and stumbled upon a reference folder where I had archived trends during my design days. I thought, “I can approach TikTok content like this.” I compiled trending challenges, music, and keywords on TikTok each week. Whenever I found trends that could represent HERA well, I quickly jumped on them. Now, nine months later, I’m planning original content and collaborating with relevant departments and external partners to produce diverse content, and the follower count has surged past 20,000. I felt remarkably fulfilled when one piece of content achieved 2 million views. This accomplishment fueled my desire to continue growing the channel, and I’m now diligently working toward the goal of ‘one upload per day.’
#Enhancing Focus from the Top Down: Hair Tie
Long hair has made a hair tie indispensable in my daily life. Whenever I need to focus, the first thing I do is tie up my hair. I wear a hair tie around my wrist so often that it has left a permanent mark. Recently, one of the tasks that required the most concentration was overseas communication. Our requests can usually be quite complex when dealing with foreign companies, so I must immerse myself fully in translating or interpreting to ensure they understand our needs. To them, I represent HERA. The sense of accomplishment I feel when receiving a positive response from these companies is incredibly rewarding. All work revolves around communication, and I take particular pride when I see the clarity of direction that emerges through effective communication.
#A Stationery Enthusiast’s Dream Notebook: Writing Notebook
My MBTI is ENFJ—a combination of a planning-oriented ‘J’ and an imaginative ‘N.’ I always like to prepare for the best and worst-case scenarios. I enjoy jotting down essential information and mapping out the structure of upcoming projects in advance. My notebook is an indispensable part of this process. Nothing makes me more anxious than starting a task without a clear grasp of the process. This leads me to ponder my future often. The vision I have for myself is to become an ‘irreplaceable person’ at work. Although I’m still a novice with much to learn, I’m confident in my ability to conduct delicate communication and meticulously manage processes, drawing on my extensive international experience. I’ve cultivated the habit of recording and reviewing various ideas and long-term plans in my notebook to develop these strengths further.
#Confidence of the Human Orca: Lip Tint
The fourth item is my lip tint—my last line of pride. Even when I’m too busy to glance in the mirror, I reapply my lip tint before stepping out. Even if my makeup fades, a hint of color on my lips gives me that essential touch of vitality. The moments when I need confidence the most are when I’m meeting someone new. My life persona could be described as a ‘human orca.’ Orcas, found in oceans worldwide, are known for their social nature and tendency to travel in pods. Interestingly, in these pods, the female often leads. Similarly, I’ve lived in various countries, immersing myself in diverse cultures, and I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people, usually taking on a leadership role in groups. When I was young, I attended five different elementary schools due to frequent moves across countries. Each time, some people extended a hand and helped me adjust. Wanting to be that person for others, I make a conscious effort to approach new people first. As I do, I feel myself growing into a confident individual who can lead conversations. Naturally, I must introduce the source of my confidence—my lip tint, HERA Sensual Fitting Glow Tint, in the new shade Plum Prep No. 20.
#A Small Window to a Fast-Changing World: Cell Phone
The last essential item is my cell phone, and I’m sure many can relate to this. In my work in content creation, I believe the most crucial aspect is understanding trends deeply. Rather than analyzing trends through precise figures and data, observing public reactions is vital. It’s all about encountering various content. That’s why I have a routine of watching summarized domestic and international news on social media during my daily commute. While staying informed is essential, I find it interesting how different media outlets report the same news from various perspectives. Since each channel has slightly different target audiences, analyzing the tone of the comments also proves beneficial for my work. When something intriguing catches my eye, I often ponder, “Why does this resonate so much?” I strive to understand why people respond strongly to trending memes or Reels. Monitoring social channels is essential to keeping up with our fast-paced world. And, of course, I do it all on my phone.
Dong-eun Kim’s Recruitment Tips
The HERA MC team establishes the brand’s communication direction across various media platforms, including social media, contributing to the brand's growth through effective strategy. To excel in this role, it's crucial to swiftly catch on to evolving trends and continuously analyze data on consumer engagement and purchasing patterns. Developing small habits, such as staying informed on a wide range of domestic and international news and exploring different content and interests, can be particularly beneficial.
As someone who’s been with the company for about a year, I’d like to share a tip for interviews: ‘Memorized lines aren’t attractive.’ In my experience, you rarely get asked the exact questions you’ve prepared for, and focusing solely on rehearsed answers can cause you to miss the point of the actual questions, leading to a confused response. It’s more effective to think simply about what you want to emphasize—your strengths and weaknesses, why you chose this role, and perhaps one unique story about yourself—and approach the interview as an opportunity for a natural conversation. I imagined the interviewers were my parents' friends to keep me calm during interviews. They’re people you want to impress but not intimidate; they’re also someone’s family and friends, just like you. Making eye contact and engaging in a comfortable, active dialogue might leave them wanting to talk to you again.
