The ‘New Beauty Icon’ series introduces individuals who inspire the world through their unique beauty. This edition features YudabinBand —YdBB, a group that breaks down barriers between acoustic and rock with their diverse performances. Since their 2020 debut, YdBB gained recognition by placing third on Mnet's band survival program “Great Seoul Invasion.” Their music delivers a heartfelt message: to discover your true self. The five members—Dabin Yu (vocals), Junhyung Lee (guitar), Sangwoon Lee (drums), Youngyun Cho (bass), and Myeongjong You (Piano)—believe that today, standing exactly as you are, is the most authentic moment you'll ever have. We sat down with YdBB to discuss how they capture these brilliant moments to create timeless music, and how each member's individuality influences their sound.

Great to meet you all. With all five of you here, the studio feels full of energy. Say hello to our readers!
Dabin Hello! We're YdBB - YudabinBand. It feels different greeting people somewhere other than the stage.
Sangwoon I actually lived in Osan as a kid, and the Amorepacific Beauty Park was right next to my house. I even had a friend who went to the Amorepacific daycare, so working with Amorepacific feels oddly familiar. When I heard we were becoming New Beauty Icons, I was really excited.
Dabin Looking inward to discover who you really are, meeting your true self—that's what YdBB want to share. I was surprised to see how Amorepacific's keyword “Create New Beauty,” which helps people discover their own beauty by creating New Beauty, connects with our message. Like Sangwoon, I came to the shoot feeling really happy about this.
Your recent single “GET LUCKY!” is about luck and happiness. Are you happy these days?
Dabin More than happy—overflowing with happiness. I've loved singing since I was little, and by my third year of middle school, when I started thinking about my future, becoming a band vocalist was already my dream. I'm happy because I'm doing what I've always dreamed of. Meeting these members, being able to keep making music—that's all incredibly lucky, right? Literally getting lucky!
Junhyung It's actually in our lyrics—we're finding happiness by thinking there's no reason not to be happy. Happiness is something you have to reach for.
Myeongjong Rather than doing something to be happy, I think it's about being ready to receive it. When you look at the world with a happy mindset, you become happy. The same situation can feel completely different depending on your perspective.
Is there one song from your albums you'd especially like to share?
Sangwoon I'd recommend "20s," the title track from CODA. It's about closing the chapter on our twenties and capturing all the brilliance we felt during that time. It's also about looking back on the path I've walked.
The year's winding down, and there's a chill in the air. As you wrap up the year, I hope you'll listen to this song and reflect on the new you and the beauty waiting to unfold. It'll naturally make you reflect on the roads you've traveled and how you've lived.
You all met as university classmates. After all this time together, how do you influence each other?
Dabin Looking back, we were friends and classmates, so we felt comfortable saying whatever we wanted, even raising our voices sometimes. But watching the members continuously put in effort for the team and lead with such responsibility made me realize I needed to step up, too. I've learned a lot. What about you guys?
Sangwoon Here's what happens: the indecisive friend becomes more decisive by being around someone assertive, and Dabin, who says she used to be extreme, has become more flexible. Our strengths and weaknesses influence each other and balance out.
Youngyun Junhyung and I have known each other since elementary school through university, and I've known the other members for about nine years, so we definitely influence each other. I'm always learning. When we're working on songs, everyone has their strengths. Of course, I have mine too. We share those things, and it really influences our music.
Myeongjong We're emotionally supportive of each other, too. I'm not usually the type to lean on others, but sometimes when I see the guys relying on each other and drawing strength from that, I think, you know, we're a pretty solid team.
You've mentioned wanting to be a long-lasting band, and with the way you've become part of each other's lives, that seems possible. Does YdBB have any principles or standards for your musicto be a long-lasting band?
Myeongjong I think we need to be needed—both by the people who listen to us and by each other. Saying "I love you" feels kind of awkward and funny, but recognizing that we need each other and working to be the people each other needs—that effort is what will keep the band going for a long time.
All the male members will soon be heading off to military service. Will a new chapter for YdBB begin after you're discharged?
Myeongjong We'll be in our thirties when we come back. In our twenties, there was definitely some anxiety about making music. I hope our thirties will show us moving past that—wanting to live happier lives—and I want that to come through in our music. Beyond that, to be honest, we're not really sure yet.
Sangwoon Exactly. Being still in our twenties, it's hard to imagine. Sure, there'll be things we can say in our thirties, but we can't pin it down right now.
Junhyung Whatever happens, we'll be making music.
We'll be waiting with anticipation. But tell us—when do you think YdBB is most beautiful? During performances?
Dabin Performances are beautiful, of course, but I think we're most beautiful when an insight hits us—and we live it out. It's like realizing that luck and happiness are all around me, and that I already have them. When that realization becomes music—that whole process is beautiful, don't you think?
In a way, everything in daily life can be beautiful. So, do each of you have specific habits for creating beauty?
Dabin As a singer, to create a beautiful sound, I always stretch before going on stage. It makes such a difference in my voice, so I make time for it, even if it's just a minute or two.
Junhyung I've always wanted to make music, so I've become interested in the concept of slow aging. I work out whenever I can after waking up. If I keep at it, I'll get more beautiful, right?
Sangwoon I'd say I try to cultivate beautiful inner sounds. My habit is to express my thoughts as unfiltered as possible to reduce the gap between extreme emotions.
Youngyun Eating healthily, resting well, spending quality time with good friends, being grateful to good people, caring for each other, respecting and loving one another, living together—I'm trying to maintain beauty through these habits. I'm working on being beautiful.
Myeongjong I'm probably the most beauty-focused person on this team. I always take a walk around Yeonnam-dong before heading home for the day as exercise, never forget to put on sunscreen, and play soccer once a week. If self-care is a habit for my beauty, then I guess that's my habit.
You're all working to find your own beauty. When do you feel most like yourself?
Dabin When I'm brushing my teeth, I think, "Ah, this is so me. This is really me." I use toothpaste with those crunchy little beads, and I always chew them first before brushing because I enjoy the sound. I'm someone who really loves these little things, so every morning when I'm chewing my toothpaste, I think, "This is so me."
Junhyung It's when I wake up in the morning—my natural self.
Sangwoon Every moment I'm living as myself, without pretense. That's when I feel most like me.
Youngyun When I'm exploring something, that's when I'm most energized and my true self comes out.
Myeongjong When I'm ordering food? (laughs) After the band started doing well, I promised myself that, whatever else happened, I wouldn't skimp on eating. At other times, I might hide my feelings, but when I'm ordering food, I'm completely myself. It's great.
Finally, for readers seeking their unique beauty, can you share five messages about embracing yourself from YUDABINBAND?
Dabin I believe the harmony of inner and outer beauty is essential. Take good care of yourself so you don't lose that inner beauty. Set your own standards. Trying to beat a rival won't leave you satisfied. Growing more than yesterday's version of yourself, trying to surpass yourself every day—that's the easiest path to beauty.
Junhyung Constantly exploring and working on yourself is what matters. I think I'm beautiful, but it took a lot of effort to get here. There's no correct answer, but you need to put in the effort to find your own answer. Nothing happens if you stay still. Let's work toward finding beauty.
Sangwoon My father's a pastor, and he used to give sermons at nursing homes regularly. I'd take photos for him, and the elderly folks would really hate having their pictures taken. So my father would convince them by saying, "Right now is the youngest you'll be for the rest of your life." When they heard that, they'd all take photos. Everyone, you're most beautiful right now. Don't let today slip away.
Youngyun Don't you need to include even your vulnerable side to be complete? Reach for the beauty of being the Only One, not Number One. Look deeply and long at what you do well and what you love. Find your own path by examining your strengths closely rather than focusing on your weaknesses. Fighting!
Myeongjong Don't worry too much about what other people think. Judging others is the easiest thing to do, and giving yourself a good evaluation is the hardest. If you work on it not to get good reviews from others, but to become a better version of yourself, won't you become someone authentic and beautiful? I hope we all live as ourselves, true to who we are.
