Empowering young dreams in person

Makeup Artist Mentoring Program of AMOREPACIFIC

To teenagers, their choice of future career is everything. Even if they know what they want to be, they may still lack direction as the way ahead seems unclear and vague. This is where advice from people who are already in their chosen profession can be invaluable. And that's why makeup artists at AMOREPACIFIC have come together to provide mentoring to students who dream of becoming beauty experts.

Encouraging students to pursue their dreams
Having a career today means becoming an expert in your chosen field. And, with the ever increasing public interest for beauty, makeup artists have emerged as a promising profession. More and more teenagers dream of becoming a makeup artist who can bring about a complete transformation to the face, like magic. Yet, even though young hopefuls learn all about makeup artists from the information available, they still tend to be unclear about what specifically they need to do. The Makeup Artist Mentoring Program hosted by AMOREPACIFIC in association with the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity is a talent donation program in which active, professional makeup artists visit schools and offer mentoring to students in person.
"Almost 40 high schools applied for this program, even though we only initially spoke with a few select schools, including specialized high schools. With such an enthusiastic response, we decided to expand the scope of the Makeup Artist Mentoring Program this summer and begin mentoring program in other professions as well, such as a professional perfumer and hair artist," said Kim Tae-woo in AMOREPACIFIC CSV (Creating Shared Value) Team who was part of a team responsible for planning this program.
The mentoring program became popular because of the way it offered practical, substantial help to students who dreamt of becoming makeup artists. It's had a huge impact, with the number of program applicants surging ahead.
Today, AMOREPACIFIC makeup artists came to Seo Seoul Life Science High School in Guro-gu, Seoul, Korea. Here, a large number of students are enrolled in International Beauty Art with the dream of becoming a professional makeup artist. Attending the mentoring class are 60 students, whose enthusiasm and eagerness to learn is clear to see.

The spirit of professionalism defines the whole school
At 1:00 p.m., the mentoring program began with a special lecture from HERA senior makeup artist Lee Jin-su from the AMOREPACIFIC Makeup Pro Team. There is a wide range of career choices available in the world of professional makeup artists. Mr. Lee spoke about the differences between areas and the training required. He spoke candidly and directly about what it took to be successful in this profession to students who would one day following in his footsteps – while the students listened to the veteran makeup artist with sparkles in their eyes.
"The very nature of the department means that students overwhelmingly have their hearts set on a career as a makeup artist. Those taking part on the mentoring program are particularly career-focused because they are high-school seniors. They are able to see and learn from AMOREPACIFIC makeup artists working in the very profession that they dream of. This is no doubt one of the reasons that the program has held such a tremendous appeal with them. I'd like to thank makeup artists for sparing their time to teach the students," said the dean of the department who applied for the program for students.
"It was great to learn that there are many specialist areas within the broader career of a makeup artist," said one student. Students also took part in a makeup demonstration by professional makeup artists. While the students benefitted from great teaching, the makeup artists felt a sense of reward from their talent donation at seeing the way students could benefit. Kim Dong-hyun in the Makeup Pro Team who facilitated a makeup demonstration felt the same. "I saw young students passionate about their dream of becoming a makeup artist through makeup demonstration and it was really fun and engaging. Some students left a comment thanking us on our website and sent postcards to the company. I felt a sense of reward to be able to help students through my job."
Demonstration was followed by practice. Makeup artists formed a group and taught students in person. Though their skills were not as good as professionals, they showed considerable enthusiasm for their dream. We hope that the sincere advice from seniors can give the encouragement students need to go on to become leaders of the next generation of makeup artists.
