Edition No. 11. Unveiling Innovative Technology Individualized to Customers
In 1984, at 'AMORE 1st Street' in Myeong-dong, Amorepacific measured the skin conditions of each individual customer using scientific beauty devices and tools and provided skin treatment tips and makeup demonstration customized to the results. It also offered massages and makeup services that were provided at expensive prices at beauty salons to anyone for free. The store only accepted around 10 customers a day, providing them with in-depth beauty consultation for two hours per customer. As a result, AMORE 1st Street was popular especially among brides-to-be, who fought to get a reservation. As competition to get an appointment became fierce, more and more customers couldn't receive beauty consults. And then-Pacific Corporation, which contemplated on a better way to provide services to more customers, sought to develop a computer system that could offer a 1 on 1 customized makeup look.
To develop such a computer system, it required a huge amount of data on the face and skin of Korean women. This was not a problem to Pacific Corporation, which had recorded the voices of customers with care. The data accumulated for the past 20 years through survey questionnaires each season as well as the experience of beauty staff who had treated customers with great care became the basis for scientific data.
And in July 1987, as a customer sat facing a camera at AMORE 1st Street, her face was saved as video data on the monitor screen and colors started to apply to her face. This was the first-ever makeup simulation in Korea demonstrated based on the company's 40-year history and technology. A total of 32,768 color combination applied to customers' faces. The simulation enabled adjustments or changes if customers wanted a different look and provided a comparison of the before and after image. Seeing hundreds of different looks and beauty that can be created on one face was an amazing experience not only for the customer, but also for anyone to see.
In 2021, 30 years since that day, Amorepacific unveiled innovative beauty technologies individualized to customers at the world's largest consumer electronics and technology show, CES, for two consecutive years. The company's Lip Factory by Color Tailor Smart Factory System, an online/offline customized technology which recommends the perfect lip color to customer's skin tone using AI and makes lip products immediately on the spot, had the honor of winning the Innovation Award for the Health & Wellness category. The Lip Factory by Color Tailor System, which can combine and make 2,000 lip products of different colors in real time, applies an advanced technology that combines and manages various pigments with accurate precision. The system is simple to operate and can make lip makeup products with the perfect color for each customer quickly.
This is the amazing achievement of Amorepacific that was possible due to the strong commitment of the company in listening to the voices of customers and delivering smart beauty innovative technologies to the world.
