Chapter 4. Architectural features and systems incorporated in the new HQ

Introducing the new headquarters of Amorepacific situated in Korea

The new HQ in Yongsan, Seoul is getting ready to welcome you all with its eco-friendly design and advanced systems. Today, we will look into the architectural features of the new HQ and the systems that we will use after moving in.

How many lifts are there in the new HQ?

  • The core of the new HQ are marked in red

The new HQ has four cores, each with four twin lifts and one single lift. In other words, there will be 16 twin lifts and 4 single lifts waiting for your ride. Twin lift is very unique; with only seven twin lifts in Korea. It has two cars moving simultaneously in contrast to a traditional lift with only one car. See the image given below.

Then, how many lifts are there in the new HQ? The answer is 38. It sounds too many but the lower car in the twin lift moves from 1st to 20th floors and the upper car from 2nd to 21st floor. (So it will not be exactly like using 38 lifts.)

Inside the twin lift: red and blue cars move independently.

Here is how to use thelift. Basically, you can use the lift in the same way you do in the Signature Camp. That's because it uses the target floor control system, which automatically reads the floor on which your office is located when you pass through the speed gate using your employee ID card. The only difference is that you must use the twin lift when you go to the office in the morning and if your office is between the 6th and 13th floors, you have to ride the lift from the 1st floor and if your office is between the 14th and 21st floor, take a ride on the 2nd floor. However the twin lift will help you get to the office faster (than you do in Signature Camp) as demonstrated through simulation. And we are sure that you all know the elevator etiquette to take the stairs instead of the lift when only going 1-2 floors, especially during busy lift traffic.

In addition, there will be six shuttle lifts from basement floors to common use space (3rd floor), four emergency lifts, two lifts for bicycles, one lift for visitors to the museum, one freight lift and 10 escalators from the first basement to 3rd floor for everyone.
  • Vertical move of lifts in the new HQ

The new HQ has an unusual and interesting lift; that's an art truck lift. It opens its bottom panel and brings up a huge container box to gulp down a truck (vibrationless car for transporting art works) and take it down to the basement. This is the first of its kind in Korea. Only rarely will you see the art truck lift after moving into the new HQ, but see the image below and imagine how this magic machine works.

Solar panel on the roof of the new HQ

  • Solar panel on the roof of the new HQ under construction

Our green initiatives as an eco-friendly corporate are taken into the new HQ. That's through the use of new and renewable energy; geothermal energy and solar heat. Architects are reluctant to use renewable energy sources because they are aesthetically unpleasant; but, we have pushed forward with our green initiatives from the very beginning of the new HQ project. Above all, the solar panel covering the roof will produce up to 350kW and therefore help save on electricity bills. (350kW of electricity is sufficient for 117 housing units of 82.64 square meters each.)

The lights in the new HQ turn on and off automatically!

In the new HQ, you will hardly see the light switch in the office, except for isolated areas like the meeting room. The light will automatically turn on when you come into the office and create an optimum working environment. Not to mention the automatic brightness control; the light will dim down when there is an enough amount of sunlight coming into the room or when there is no one around. The same system will be applied to the parking lot.

What is an automatic standby power saver socket?

  • Automatic standby power saver socket (but different model will be used in the new HQ)

In compliance with the design guideline by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, every desk in the new HQ will have an automatic standby power saver socket. It looks a lot like multi-socket, but it has one main outlet, one outlet (port) for laptops and three auto on/off outlets. First, the main outlet is used for devices that should never be turned off. And outlets for laptop and auto on/off outlets react upon each other. In other words, if a device is plugged into the auto on-off outlet, a laptop should also be plugged in to use the device. But, if the laptop is in standby mode, the device connected to the auto on-off socket will stop working. It sounds a little difficult, but once you get used to it, it will not only come in handy for your work but also contribute to protecting the environment.

Systems in the parking lot

 1) Electric cars are welcome!
- The new HQ is equipped with the electric car charging systems; 34 charging systems and 2 rapid charging systems will welcome every electric car coming to the new HQ. If you are considering buying an electric car, the charging systems in the new HQ will give a very good reason!

2) Parking lot from the 3rd to 6th basement levels!
- The 6th basement level will provide a monthly parking lot for members of Amorepacific, the 5th basement level for renters, and the 3rd and 4th levels will be used by members of Amorepacific, renters and visitors. The parking system uses the latest in number plate recognition, camera-based smart parking, VIM (Vehicle Identification Number) check technologies, as well as parking surveillance to inspect the scene in case of an accident. Moreover, there will be an alarm installed at a certain distance from the parking lot to check on those in need of assistance using the camera.

Our new architecturally beautiful and green HQ fully equipped with state-of-the-art systems will provide a whole new experience for every one of us. Now, let's together look forward to our new beginning in the new HQ in Yongsan, Seoul in the end of this year!
