Editor’s note
With an increasing interest of customers in skin health and longevity, the keywords Skin Longevity and Skin Wellness remain dominant mega trends. This autumn, makeup looks featuring colors that mimic nature are taking center stage.
As the saying goes, "A nation that forgets its past has no future." The fresh appeal of indie brands in the beauty scene is undeniable, but the enduring significance of legacy brands cannot be overlooked. The identity of brands with a long history, forged through years of trial and error, is worthy of admiration and love. This is why the seasonal collections by legacy brands that best represent their identity are widely regarded as key indicators of fashion and beauty trends.
Among them, Alexander MacQueen’s F/W 2025 collection reinterpreted dandyism with a modern twist on Victorian influences, wrapped in a mysterious and dreamy nocturnal theme, and Louis Vuitton drew inspiration from the train station and travel, two themes deeply rooted in the brand’s heritage.
Pay close attention to what fashion houses are trying to convey through their collections each season. This season, clothing and makeup colors that complement the seasonal mood are particularly noticeable. As colors tend to be less saturated and patterns more subdued than in the S/S season, layering and color harmony are what complete the look.
Trend Preview
2025 F/W Women
1. Scattered Eye shadow
Chanel, Paris
Elie Saab, Paris
Art259design, Milan
This season's eye makeup features a bold and rough eyeshadow looks. Both symmetry and shape appear imperfect, in contrast to the previous trend that favored precisely defined semi-smokey or smokey eye makeup. Come to think of it, natural objects lack the precise, uniform edges of industrially manufactured goods. In that regard, natural colors such as taupe, mocha and wood tones and imperfect textures pair well together.
The highlight of this eye makeup look is a gradient of deep black and dark taupe, warm seasonal hues and asymmetrical shape of eyeshadow.
When using dark colors, it is advisable to apply a beige-to-brown eyeshadow on the eyelids as a base to achieve a seamless blend with the skin makeup. Use the leftover to softly contour the area between the brows and down the bridge of the nose for a natural definition. Applying a light layer of the base color helps prevent the black eyeshadow from looking patchy or dull.
2. Neutral Chic Khaki
Zimmermann, Paris
Coperni, Paris
Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Paris
The moment I saw the makeup look in these collections, my first thought was simply, ‘It’s beautiful!’ The khaki eye makeup is particularly apt for this time of year, evoking the warmth of a café mocha and the time of year when you consider taking out your sweaters. This is a classic makeup look, but executed with a simplified technique. Dark khaki eyeshadow is not covering the entire eyelid as it can give the eyes a somewhat heavy feel. Instead, focus the eyeliner around the pupils to draw attention to the center of the eyes. Semi-smokey makeup usually creates a sexy and glamorous feel, leaning toward a more maximalist aesthetic. However, this season's look features a noticeable sharpness and chic edge, evoking the feeling of dystopia brought to life in human form. Enhanced eye depth, angled eyebrows in a diagonal line, and coral lip color – neither too nude nor too ruddy – together create a kitsch and street style vibe.
If you want to try mid-to-low saturated eyeshadow for both vintage mood and hip vibe, ETUDE HOUSE Hype Khaki Edition Palette would be a good choice. Its wearable colors are perfect for creating a casual, hip style look that flatters Asian skin tones.
3. Very, Berry Lip
Burc Akyol, Paris
Marine Serre, Paris
Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, Paris
Lip lines in berry colors, reminiscent of raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry shades are catching the eye. The lips are defined with bold outlines, as if sketched in 2D. The key point is using either a completely different color from the base or the same color to fill in the lips without any gradient. Start with lip liner to outline the lips. If you fill in the lips first, the creamy texture or oil layer can make it harder to define the edges. Make sure the area around the lip liner is well-cleaned to maintain the matte finish of the formula. Lip liner has made a big comeback, now used for boldly defining the outer corners of the lips or reshaping the lips. If your lips look rather awkward or narrow after application, a burgundy cherry lip liner can help enhance both color and volume of the lips.
With HERA Sensual Tinted Shine Stick Black Cherry, you can easily create a kitsch look. It works well with lip liner, but thanks to its waterproof formula, it delivers clear definition even when used on its own.
4. Volume-up Mascara
Véronique Leroy, Paris
Sacai, Paris
Chloé, Paris
Captivating – a word I never quite connected with, until I saw the mascara looks in this season’s collections. I simply could not look away. The defined look of eyelashes achieved without the use of eyeliner underscores the significance of mascara. The harmonious pairing of sophisticated, refined scarlet lips and blush makes this one of the season’s most beautiful makeup looks. There is no complicated technique behind the skin makeup, but only a delicate balance of glow and softness. In contrast to eyeshadow and blush, which build color through layers, eyelash makeup is not about layering; it’s about lines and for that, each lash requires a careful, precise touch.
Eyelashes extend the area above and below the eyes and in turn, help to visually minimize the remaining areas of the face. This makes eyelash makeup a staple, even in minimalist makeup routines. This season’s mascara makeup adds more length and volume to the lower lashes than the upper lashes. If you have trouble applying mascara to the short lower lashes or find it getting clumpy, a short-brush mascara can be a solution. They say only a bad workman blames his tools, but using the right tools can make life much easier.
If you want to keep your lashes looking long and full with a densely packed brush, ETUDE HOUSE Curl Fix Mascara developed together with 400 public beauty enthusiasts is the answer.
5. Refined Radiance Skin
Christian Dior, Paris
Akris, Paris
Niccolò Pasqualetti, Paris
It was flawlessly smooth skin with a subtle pink flush, reminiscent of an oil painting.
After makeup artist Pat McGrath unveiled the porcelain-like skin makeup at the S/S 2024 Maison Margiela collection, a wearable version has now been launched for everyday use. Following that, the glossy makeup trend has gained momentum.
This trend is likely to continue, in line with two ongoing global megatrends: Slow Aging and Skin Wellness. Dewy glowing skin steps aside during the fall/winter season, but it has long held its place as a beauty ideal for years. The difference is that, in the past, glow was added to the skin’s surface using highlighter, but now it’s about a luxurious radiance that appears to come from within the skin. To achieve this lit-from-within radiance, skincare and overall skin health are essential.
For some time now, the K-beauty routine has been recognized around the world as the key to achieving silky smooth skin. The Korean skincare routine is known to have about 1.7 more steps than the global average. In addition, the culture of beauty devices in Korea has advanced.
Everyone uses skincare products. But if you seek more personalized skincare, beauty devices could help. makeON Skin Light Therapy 3S offers Weekly Skin Challenge, Custom Routine Alarm and other features designed to support consistent and systematic at-home skincare. With only 3 minutes of daily use, you can achieve radiant and confident skin.
