Editor’s note
Every country has its unique makeup trends that reflect its identity. While certain makeup looks may come to mind when considering specific nations, today’s beauty industry showcases 'global standards' that transcend borders. Rapidly disseminating beauty trends via social media contributes significantly to this phenomenon. When an intriguing makeup method gains popularity, it spreads globally. On the 24 F/W Women’s runway, the K-Beauty wave brought many natural yet sturdy makeup looks. However, these styles are often presented in a 'hyper-personalized' manner on the streets. This Makeup Artist Column aims to convey the diversity observed in the 24 F/W Women's Street Fashion by analyzing major beauty trends.

Street Beauty Trend

In this F/W street style, the matte finish for skin and lips is a noticeable makeup trend. Although the sheer and glowy look seemed like it would never fade, matte remains essential for fall/winter. The influence of seasons on makeup looks has slightly diminished compared to the past, with trends now more shaped by popular methods on social platforms. Nevertheless, a matte makeup look's chic and elegant vibe aptly represents the F/W season. Regarding lip color, the 24 S/S collection showcased dark yet vivid shades, while the 24 F/W Women collection leaned towards nearly colorless tones. However, colors have made a comeback in the realway. These once slightly forgotten hues, which inspired expressions like ‘My Lips But Better’ and ‘My Lips But Bold’ and are characterized by beige tones with a hint of warmth, are now back in vogue. The lips are fully filled in, following their natural curve without blurring the edges. In K-beauty, beige is frequently the base color, often complemented with a point color on the inner lips for a three-dimensional effect. This season’s look suggests a return to lighter, simpler makeup styles.
2. Dewy From Head To Lip

The hallmark dewy look of the 24 F/W Women collection, discussed in the previous column, shone even brighter in this street collection. While the extreme moisture was most evident on the lips, the realway emphasized a glossy complexion that radiated across the entire face. A dewy appearance conveys health and exudes a feminine, transparent, and clean aura. Achieving this requires robust skincare that fortifies the skin from within. During a makeup class at HERA’s Osaka pop-up, the Hydro Dew Plumping 3-Step line was utilized, showcasing a skincare line developed by skincare researchers, makeup artists, and customers collaboratively. The ampoule, which quickly replenishes moisture, was so popular that it sold out within seven days. Dryness is a universal makeup concern, regardless of climate or environment. For Westerners, who typically have more and coarser facial hair than Asians, meticulous moisture care is crucial to avoid the foundation appearing cakey and dry, even with a glowy texture. Therefore, selecting moisture-rich products at every stage is vital to enhance the skin's ‘natural glow’ to achieve radiant skin. This has led to various descriptive terms like radiance and glowy texture. However, overusing these products can cause the skin's moisture layer to coat, leading to product pilling. Hence, applying small amounts to specific areas and blending with a sponge can be beneficial.
3. Orange Mixed Brown

Orange mixed brown. The orange-hued makeup look has made a comeback. This warm tone, which enhances the warmth of warm skin tones, has historically been less favored by Asians but has now returned. While pink was once universally popular, coral orange colors, which evoke warmth, are making a resurgence. Moving beyond single colors like pink and red, using orange-infused brown colors creates a subtle yet sophisticated dimension on the face. This look also features well-defined lip lines, contrasting with the still prominent smudged technique. Even with the same color palette, localization to suit different ethnicities and countries is crucial. Natural colors, in particular, can be used as focal points in makeup across various tones and in a short period. This makes the ‘value for money’ aspect significant in makeup products, and if a new makeup color piques curiosity enough for a trial, it can become a sustainable, popular product beyond seasonal trends.
4. Cherry Red Lip

Cherry Red lip color stood out as a perfect companion to Peach Fuzz, which conveys warmth and serenity. Unlike deep or dull dark tones of ‘red,’ Cherry Red, paired with burgundy eye makeup, exudes a vibrant yet gentle charisma. Neutral eye shadow and blush were used to ensure the lips remained the focal point.
Cherry Red is a suitable color for a subdued yet striking accent. If intense primary red is daunting, soft-hued Cherry Red complements various makeup moods universally. Although bold primary colors typically dominate fall and winter, softer, emotionally resonant colors are expected to prevail. Despite being more daring than previously discussed nude shades, this color can be used as focal points, balancing wearable makeup looks. Unlike the traditional red lip pairing with flawless skin and defined mascara, Cherry Red has been effectively used in minimal makeup looks, embracing the boldness of freckles and unstructured brows.
5. Neutral Tone-On-Tone Makeup

The Neutral Tone-On-Tone makeup look, where colors harmoniously blend, is expected to continue. Matching cheeks and lips can easily achieve a tone-on-tone makeup style. Inspired by collections, realway makeup sometimes dares to use bold colors, but using the same shade everywhere is unnecessary. Using one hue over a broad face area can create a feminine and elegant vibe. This makeup method is perfect for the ‘effortlessly chic’ style, appearing naturally polished without contouring. Considering the extensive layering in Western makeup styles, this restrained look is quite daring. However, we can't always use numerous products. Tone-on-tone makeup can be naturally achieved by adjusting the amount of the same product. For instance, mixing a bit of lipstick with foundation or concealer and gently patting it onto the cheeks allows for a seamless blend without harsh lines. In this look, the blush extends diagonally from the cheeks to the temples, with a higher color intensity than the lips.
6. Orange Monochrome Look

The monochrome look has evolved. It now extends beyond the face to include hair color. Unlike typical F/W collections, this look unifies warm shades from hair to brows and lips. Soft variations like rose brown and burgundy brown feature prominently, with colors like deep plum, burgundy, and classic red appearing in textures from matte to glossy.
In the 24 F/W season collection, Pharrell envisioned the Louis Vuitton men’s collection with a West Coast wilderness theme, capturing the untamed spirit of the West in street fashion. Unlike the overly matte finishes reminiscent of the bohemian desert style of the past, a subtle, naturally glowing skin finish was prominent. By unifying the brow color, an extreme monochromatic look was achieved. While using the same color throughout all makeup stages on a small face can appear monotonous and flat, the eye makeup was deliberately toned down to prevent a stifling effect, employing colors judiciously. Even within the same look, the emotional resonance derived from the tones is essential, with natural hues like sunsets, autumn leaves, and flower petals encapsulating that mood.
