Part 1.
Part 1. From Pacific’s First Laboratory in 1954 to Amorepacific’s R&I Center

An unwavering value has persisted to the present day. Amidst the ever-changing tides of time, Amorepacific’s unique heritage remains consistently inherited. This series chronicles the stories behind Amorepacific’s enduring heritage.
The first episode begins at the Amorepacific Research Institute. The first laboratory was in the Pacific in 1954, and it moved through the Pacific Technical Research Institute in Yongin in 1992, now known as the Amorepacific R&I Center. Here, the relentless pursuit of extracting something extraordinary from decades of research into materials, the exhilaration of creating beloved products from unfamiliar ingredients, and the collective contemplation among members about what customers truly need today have all fostered a shared sense of purpose. The passion for research, which can span several years or even decades despite unpredictable outcomes, thrives within this environment.

Those who shared the first episode of ‘From Pacific to Amore’ are researchers at the Amorepacific R&I Center. The protagonists are Su-hwan Kim (Healthcare 1 Lab), Young-kyu Han (Materials Science Lab), Jeong-hoon Cho (Materials Science Lab), and Eun-ji Lee (Skincare 2 Lab). They are each responsible for developing health functional foods using ginseng berries and red ginseng, researching the control of physical properties of materials/formulations and developing natural-derived formulation materials, planning and developing innisfree skincare products, and developing cosmetic materials through the processing of natural substances and researching their efficacy components.
Although their fields differ, they share a common denominator within the broader framework of Amorepacific: a unified vision and sense of mission driving their research. Through their seemingly diverse yet similar stories, the values and strength of Amorepacific become palpable. We asked the four researchers safeguarding the Amorepacific R&I Center about the assets and values that drive and grow Amorepacific. Each provided a distinct and colorful answer, reflecting their unique perspectives.

Part 3.
The Amorepacific Heritage Etched Within Me

A common question posed to the researchers was, “What is the heritage that has continued from Pacific to Amore?” The researchers' responses regarding the legacy and values inherited from Chairman Sung-whan Suh of Pacific Chemical were diverse and intriguing.
Jeong-hoon Cho, a researcher specializing in plant ingredients such as ginseng, highlighted 'ginseng' as a value that has been sustained for decades and must continue to be upheld. Ginseng transcends its identity as a mere plant or raw material to him. Heritage is not simply a product of the passage of time; it embodies the aspirations and philosophies of people from different eras and requires mutual recognition of these values to attain true significance. Reflecting on the long history of Amorepacific’s ginseng research, Cho emphasized that heritage should continue “with ginseng,” underscoring the necessity of conveying its benefits to customers and fostering their appreciation.
Su-hwan Kim, who responded with 'DNA,' explained that Amorepacific's unique heritage lies in the mentorship and atmosphere that flow from senior to junior members within the workplace. From the minutiae of writing reports to the broader skill of problem-solving, these lessons have been passed down and have become ingrained in Amorepacific’s very DNA.

Eun-ji Lee defined the heritage as a ‘customer-centric perspective,’ quoting Chairman Sung-whan Suh’s words, “Sell emotion and gain hearts.” She reminisced about her childhood memories of her mother joyfully purchasing and using sales-visited cosmetics, finding happiness in the product’s composition and efficacy. Through this, Lee discovered the foundational value of customer satisfaction, which serves as the principle and root of Amorepacific.
Young-kyu Han answered with ‘mission,’ explaining that every member of Amorepacific shares an unchanging value of “making A MORE beautiful world.” He elaborated that the visions and principles embedded within this value continuously drive the company’s enduring spirit.
