Episode 2. Best Bingsu Spots Near Signature Towers

If you are one of those people that need something sweet after a meal, you might as well choose a wonderful, decadent sugary food such as bingsu. Bingsu, frosted ice flakes usually topped with sweet red beans, small pieces of doughy tteok (rice cake), and condensed milk is Korea's all time favorite treat. In addition to these classic toppings, bingsu today are available in so many different flavors like green tea, coffee, and berry. You can easily find these bingsu on the menus of many cafés in Seoul. Even fast food restaurants like McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and Lotteria serve bingsu.

In fact, bingsu is a great example of Korean dining culture. Since it is typically served in one size that is almost always too much for one person, it makes a perfect dessert for sharing. If you didn't know this already, Korean dining is all about sharing. (And sharing is caring!)

The following is a list of places you can taste the sweet shaved ice flakes near Signature Camp – places where Seoulites go to beat an afternoon slump.

1. OSULLOC: Green Tea Bingsu

Operated by our company, AMOREPACIFIC, OSULLOC specializes in green tea, with their own tea plantation in Jeju Island. With their resources and experience, it only seems fitting that OSULLOC would serve the best green tea bingsu in the city. OSULLOC gives you a big scoop of green tea ice cream on top of a heaping portion of very fine shaved green tea ice. Eating it is like a treasure hunt. Every spoonful contains a surprise whether it is the sweet red beans or the chewy rice cake. The only downside is its price point – 17K won for a bowl of bingsu seems a little too steep.

Address : B1 West Wing Signature Camp

2. Sulbing (설빙): the Bingsu Paradise

Sulbing, meaning "snow ice" in Korean, is a chain of dessert cafes that began in Busan which serves all kinds of bingsu. Instead of the typical shaved ice, the white crystal flakes in their bingsu are frozen milk which makes it sweeter and creamier. The consistency is like delicious powdery snow. Their list of topping is quite extensive from regular red beans to rice cake, yogurt, cheese, berries and even black sesame. If you opt for more of the healthier choice, go for the berries. Frozen blueberries and raspberries are placed on top of layers of white crystal ice flakes and condensed milk. Each mouthful is a combination of refreshing berries and creamy shaved ice which slowly turns into a cold sweet soup. Be careful not to mix and mash up the ice; take small scoops of it at a time and enjoy the subtle flavors.

Address : 2-3F Youngan Building, 84-1 Jongro 2 ga, Seoul (7-8 minutes walk from the Signature Camp)

3. Dongbinggo (동빙고): Strawberry Bingsu

Located on the 6th floor of Lotte department store in Myeongdong, Dongbinggo is a popular chain of a historic bingsu place in Ichon. Their milk bingsu with the sweet red beans was once voted as the country's best bingsu by foodies. My favorite however is their strawberry bingsu. Even in the dead of winter, I get cravings for their strawberry bingsu. Fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream and just the right amount of red bean with shaved ice! My gawd it's good.

Address : 6F Lotte Young Plaza, Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul
