Building a network across the world

AMOREPACIFIC GIANT TF


Accomplishing a new vision requires an updated and forward-looking strategy. Now that AMOREPACIFIC Group has begun working toward the vision of becoming a Great Global Brand Company, it has updated its strategy accordingly. And this new strategic direction is perhaps best shown in the implementation of the GIANT Project, which is designed to build a NEW ERP system. GIANT TF (Task Force) is seeking to hit its goal of building a network that connects the whole AP Group offices. Then, let's find out more about how GIANT TF is making a big picture in the midst of momentous change.

A master key to all global markets
AMOREPACIFIC Group is fully committed to the challenge of becoming a Great Global Brand Company in the global era. And, indeed, it has already launched operations abroad, including in China, ASEAN countries, North America, Western Europe and Japan. In fact, sales from global markets, particularly the Chinese market, have been growing year-on-year. Yet, international success has brought with it its own challenges, necessitating a major overhaul of management infrastructure in order to gain visibility over global markets in real-time and build the capability to take a swift response to changes in the market through group-wide integration. GIANT (Global Integrated AMOREPACIFIC New erp Transformation) TF is responsible for organizing, standardizing and integrating office-specific ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) into a single system. GIANT TF is currently engaged in building a platform that helps save the time and cost associated with the building process, training program and system. As such tasks are required when breaking into a new market, greater efficiencies in this area help to plant the roots of AMOREPACIFIC Group's unique culture of work as early as possible.
"We should be able to make a strategic, swift response in order to achieve the vision of becoming a Great Global Brand Company and compete with global leaders. This requires advanced infrastructure to help implement counterstrategies in an efficient manner. GIANT TF is currently building a global standard process-based ERP system. The goal is to make this system an asset in its own right as part of the organization-wide adoption of a flexible, change-sensitive platform on which to base our future growth."

Those are the words of Sung Joong-yong, the project leader for GIANT TF. Similar to the way the brain receives pain messages through the neural network and quickly responds to them, AMOREPACIFIC Group would like to be able to take an appropriate strategic response to changes in the business environment through NEW ERP system across the full spectrum of its global operations.

"While we do have a set of standard business processes, the fact is the markets have changed a lot. We now need a set of advanced, high-level business processes that can help us compete against other global companies. We will deploy business processes capable of ensuring the same performance no matter where, when and with whom our members do business. We will make sure that process management is much more value-oriented so that it makes a more valuable contribution to the performance of the whole group, rather than any specific department."

A springboard for Vision 2020
Members from business units of AMOREPACIFIC Group came together with leaders in different areas, including consultants, developers and solution experts. There are now more than 300 members in TF who are working toward a single shared goal of building Global NO.1 ERP. It was not easy at the outset to combine the ideas of so many members into one, particularly given their different experiences. However, through communication they were able to start from a shared understanding of the philosophy, value and direction of AMOREPACIFIC Group, with the team finding a way to work well together as a result.

"I didn't know exactly what to think when I found out I had been placed in GIANT TF. But, what I came to realize was that the success of this project would mean so much to the group in terms of building a shared platform for long-term success and training future leading experts as well. In 2020, the members who have taken part in the project will go on to lead AMOREPACIFIC Group. I hope that this project produces a wealth of talented professionals capable of offering a new perspective."

Based on this thinking, we launched our "GIANT TF WAY" of realizing a Great Global Brand Company by building ABC platform for supporting global operations, as well as our "GIANT TF Models" for ABC growing together by realizing customer values.
GIANT TF is currently undertaken in three broad phases: first - design, second - implementation in Korea; and, third - global system deployment. In February 2014, we started to establish task-specific standard business processes and designed a network capable of achieving the vision of AMOREPACIFIC Group. In October 2014, we began implementation of the system in Korea. And, in March 2015, we will undertake an integrated test, user-centered test and education and data alignment, which all require the help and participation of on-site workers. To do so, we have selected 200 Power Users to represent AP Group members around the world. They will work alongside GIANT TF to test the processes and systems to, in effect, get an education first.

Power users specializing in the business processes used by different areas will function as strong supporters of GIANT to assist other members in adapting to the changes that will come soon. Of course, it will not be easy to learn a completely new system and set of standard business processes. All members of AMOREPACIFIC Group need to work together and cooperate in order to make the GIANT Project a success, just as members of an orchestra practice together to give the best performance. We hope that beautiful cooperation of all members helps to drive changes in the future.
