Amorepacific is holding a special exhibition celebrating the 5th year anniversary of the completion of its headquarters.

The special exhibition, ‘BUILDING. BEAUTY,’ is to be held from September 18th to 26th on the 1st floor of the Amorepacific headquarters in Yongsan, introducing the architectural philosophy behind the headquarters, the latest addition to Seoul’s list of landmarks. The exhibition will also celebrate the winning of the 2023 Pritzker Prize by David Chipperfield, the architect of the company’s headquarters.

The exhibition will explore the concept of ‘beauty,’ pursued by both Amorepacific and architecture alike, through diverse themes such as, history, community, and nature. To this end, various exhibits will be presented, including the white porcelain moon jar that inspired the design of the headquarters, sketches of the headquarters’ design, and a large display showcasing the headquarters’ courtyard. These exhibits will highlight the headquarters’ role as a medium connecting the past and the future, communities and businesses, and finally, nature and the city.

The exhibition will also introduce architectural philosophy and the major works of David Chipperfield, who won this year’s Pritzker Prize. Over the past 40 years, David Chipperfield has been involved with both the restoration and urban planning of numerous public cultural facilities and historical buildings throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. He is particularly known for bringing historical, cultural and environmental contexts into consideration when designing his works. His appreciation of these perspectives won him the 2023 Pritzker Prize, a special prize awarded to architects who make contributions to humanity through architecture.

Among his works, the Amorepacific headquarters in Seoul is known for a design that embraces the beauty of Korea’s traditional white porcelain moon jar. The company’s headquarters also received a mention as one of David Chipperfield’s major works in the announcement of the selection of winners by the Pritzker Prize selection committee. More specifically, the headquarters was applauded as a building that creates “harmony between individuals and groups, private and public spaces, and the realms of work and relaxation” through aluminum fins on the external walls that let in natural light, a large atrium in the lobby that encourages close contact with the community, and an internal courtyard that reimagines nature within an office space.
