A Pleasant Work Environment That Prioritizes Employee Health and Safety

Based on the belief that the peace and growth of internal and external members of a company is the first step to becoming a global leader, Amorepacific is conducting various activities to create a work environment for the happiness of all employees and partners that are the key subjects of corporate management. The company is constantly innovating around ways to promote safety consciousness among employees by eliminating risk factors and expanding a sound safety/health culture.
With the acceleration of global growth, there has been greater emphasis placed on the importance of safety and health promotion, as well as disaster management. Risks of viral diseases like the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) or natural calamities like typhoons and earthquakes, as well as unpredictable events and accidents like fires on worksite are latent everywhere. Moreover, there is increased exposure to terrorism triggered by growing political anxiety overseas. To secure future growth and competitiveness, it is necessary to establish corporate culture that emphasizes the safety of customers, employees and partners that are the internal and external members of the company. At the same time, increasing efforts to improve health and quality of life will build an important foundation for sustainability management.

Amorepacific has built an integrated "SHE (Safety, Health and Environment)" management system that must be followed in local and global branches in 2014, based on which it is striving to create a safe environment for both customers and employees. To conduct environmental safety diagnosis and eliminate risks on worksites and at stores, the company reorganized the response system to promptly handle negligent accidents and emergencies in 2015. It has begun to operate various education and communication programs in a bid to improve safety consciousness of employees and expand autonomous safety culture. In 2016, Amorepacific reestablished the group standards and monitoring system to reinforce the globally integrated SHE management system. This is a series of activities that give top priority to promoting safety and health for internal/external members of the business ecosystem in carrying out all business activities.
Creating a Safe Environment for Employees
Safety management on worksites begins with creating a pleasant work environment for employees by finding and eliminating all risk factors. Thus, Amorepacific conducts precision diagnosis of risks at each worksite with external experts in electric power, firefighting and architectural structure in order to provide safety and health management specialized for each task, while also carrying out activities to make improvements.

The R&D Center performs methodical risk assessment to handle safety in general process and chemical substances, and establishes risk mitigation measures. It regularly inspects the work environment in the lab and measures air quality, while also providing special medical checkups for researchers handling harmful substances. Osan Beauty Campus is reinforcing safety management for high-risk tasks that are vulnerable to disasters, and establishing and operating safety processes for holidays. Moreover, it is preparing to create and distribute a safety manual for establishment and maintenance of safe stores for customers and employees.
Creating a Healthy Workplace
Amorepacific is a company that seeks beauty and health, and it provides intensive health care services via email and text messages for employees hoping to reduce body fat or quit smoking. This is done by operating the "Health/No Smoking Fund" with the Jung-gu Health Center to improve employee happiness. In 2016, 336 employees participated in this program, and approximately 32% succeeded in achieving the goal.

In addition, employees can get a simple health checkup at the in-house medical service room in the headquarters through stress diagnosis service and blood test. They can also receive education and consulting about obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and hyperlipidemia by taking a metabolic syndrome test in cooperation with the health center. Amorepacific expands the application scope of medical checkups for employees to their husbands and wives, and provides comprehensive medical testing benefits for spouses aged 35 or above. The company is increasing facility investments related to in-house health care. It offers a membership service for employees to constantly manage and consult about their physical condition through the body composition analyzer in the medical service room.
Establishing a Safety Management System
Amorepacific established the "AP SOS System," which is a company-wide integrated accident management system that immediately reports to relevant staff at the headquarters through an application installed on individual cell phones, in preparation for the risks of negligent accidents that are increasing along with the expansion of the business scope. This system enables employees to conveniently report risk factors at each worksite, thereby improving them quickly and efficiently and contributing to creating a safe work environment. Furthermore, the "International SOS" program available on overseas business trips provides medical and security information of the relevant country before departure. It also provides international SOS clinic services at the level of international health care in the case of emergencies on site, while also supporting flight and ship guidance as well as transport for evacuation in emergencies.

Amorepacific established the "AP Event Safety Management System" to secure safety for all Amorepacific stakeholders participating in over 300 corporate events every year, and developed a checklist to easily check all safety guidelines necessary for holding and managing events.
Creating an In-house Safety Culture
Amorepacific operates comprehensive education and participation programs for employees to obtain a high level of safety consciousness and voluntarily practice safety management. The company plans to develop and manage a curriculum to reinforce safety culture at Amorepacific in addition to the current online safety education regularly held every quarter.

As an activity to reinforce in-house safety, Amorepacific is regularly holding the "AP SOS Safety Suggestion Contest" since 2015 to motivate employees to participate in safety and health activities and encourage them to show more interest. In addition, the company invites lecturers from outside the company to provide education to improve safety consciousness necessary in the company as well as at home and in the community. By improving the ability to handle crisis with regular CPR training and defibrillator use for emergencies, Amorepacific helps employees become more familiar with the safety culture at work and in life.
