Editor’s note
In the recent '25 Resort Collection, the emphasis shifted from bold, adventurous makeup to more understated and streamlined looks. The makeup color palette prominently featured subtle rose pinks and cobalt blues harmonized with silvers, all set against neutral saturations. Instead of diversifying colors, there was a notable exploration of textures such as ‘matte’ and ‘glossy’ finishes, resulting in a versatile array of makeup formulations. Even when utilizing the same hues, the inherent qualities of different products introduce subtle variations. This column delves into the similarities and distinctions compared to past Natural Mood makeup trends.
2025 Resort Women Off Season’s
Beauty Trend
1. Pink Petal Makeup
Ferragamo, Milan
Valentino, Paris
Rochas, Paris
Moving beyond the stereotypical neon and hot pinks, the spotlight now shines on the understated Pink‘ish’ makeup that seamlessly blends pink tones into a delicate mood. Pinkish makeup, which becomes more pronounced with a brighter complexion, might pose challenges for Asian individuals eager to embrace it. Many have likely experienced purchasing lukewarm pinks during sales, only to be disappointed by the results. However, the latest resort collection tempers pink usage, reigniting its global trend and presenting a renewed opportunity for experimentation. Past failures may have stemmed from applying ‘pink mood’ eyeshadows too directly to the eyes without considering the overall facial tone, resulting in a lack of harmony. Ferragamo, Valentino, and Rochas collections share a common thread: they infuse warm pink hues into the eyes, lips, and cheeks, imparting a cohesive warmth across the entire face. As the Balletcore aesthetic extends its influence, it has diverged significantly from its traditional standards. Spearheaded by MIUMIU’s Fall/Winter '22 collection, Balletcore emerged as a mega-trend characterized by cool-toned pinks reminiscent of the vibrant hues a ‘Barbie-girl’ might wear. However, this season, the palette shifts to more subdued pinks such as Veiled Rose and Quartz Pink. To evoke a classic yet lightweight impression, eyeshadows with minimal glitter particles were employed. Utilizing the Pink Mauve shade from Amorepacific’s eSpoir Eye Core Palette No. 2 Savage Mauve allows anyone to create an apparent Pinkish effect effortlessly. By applying the base color, BORN FREE, not only around the eyes but also on the cheeks, bridge of the nose, and jawline, the color gracefully lingers across the face. This comprehensive application ensures that the hues remain seamlessly integrated, completing this season's Pink Petal Makeup look.
2. Radiant Vaseline Skin
Del Core, Milan
Acler, Australia
Blumarine, Milan
The trend of Vaseline-glossed makeup continues, adding a luminous sheen to the skin. Everyone desires a complexion that gleams as if basked in natural light. Even those with less-than-ideal skin conditions might be tempted to try a glossy finish to enhance their appearance. The resort collection showcases skin expressions reminiscent of foundation-free makeup, characterized by exceptionally sheer coverage. A light application of tone-up sunscreen and concealer creates a delicate complexion, over which a Vaseline gloss is applied using techniques like beam-glow cheeks or highlighter. This approach ensures the skin looks neither pallid nor overly made-up, exuding a healthy, well-maintained appearance that conveys luxury. Often referred to as the Cruise Collection, resort collections traditionally feature bold makeup looks rarely attempted in everyday wear. However, recent years have seen a shift towards emphasizing the essence and inherent clarity of the skin, influenced by the aftermath of the pandemic and the rise of K-Beauty.
Contrary to the perception that Vaseline glosses might be heavy, selecting high-performance multi-functional products for luxury skin textures can achieve an ideal, flawless radiance without caking. Incorporating multi-benefit products into daily makeup routines allows the skin’s condition to improve visibly. HERA’s Healthy Glow Dewy Balm exemplifies such a product, designed as a slow-aging glow balm that enhances radiance and improves skin health. Regardless of the beauty of the applied colors, dry skin diminishes their efficacy. Therefore, nurturing healthy, luminous skin through proper care is essential for a naturally radiant complexion.
3. Glow-Boosted Cheeks
Blanca, Australia
Chanel, Marseille
Self-Portrait, NY
Beyond merely enhancing the skin’s moisture luminescence, melting cheek balms have become pivotal in achieving radiant complexions. While finely milled pearl glitters and holographic highlighters remain trendy, a persistent resurgence of makeup techniques leverages the inherent sheen within blushes. This approach employs vibrant, colorful hydration glows to create the illusion of personal lighting, accentuating facial contours and imparting a clear, luminous complexion. For those seeking a naturally flushed appearance reminiscent of innate vitality, blending a pearl-infused or liquid highlighter into cream or liquid blush products can dilute the intensity, resulting in more wearable cheek makeup. HERA’s Sensual Lip & Cheek offers a buildable formula that delivers a consistently sheer hue, making it an ideal choice for achieving this effect. When using balm-type blushes, allowing ample time for melting is crucial; applying them hastily can result in uneven patches. It is recommended to warm the product between the hands before smoothly distributing it across the cheeks to ensure a flawless application. This season, the placement of blush has expanded beyond the traditional areas to include the front of the cheeks and the upper temples, utilizing a diverse color palette ranging from coral and bronze to pure red. The key lies in masterfully highlighting the glossy textures, focusing on texture-centric cheek application techniques that amplify the overall shimmer.
4. Cyberpunk Blue Core
Albus Lumen, Australia
Indigenous Fashion Projects, Australia
Veronica Beard, NY
The cyberpunk aesthetic has transcended its 2000s origins, evolving into the Y3K style—a vision of the year 3000. This transformation embraces AI-driven makeup styles inspired by the metaverse and computer-generated imagery, crafting looks that seamlessly blend online influences with offline reality. Contemporary interpretations often infuse elements that make K-POP idols appear almost otherworldly, evoking a sense of intrigue with questions like, “Are they real?” Historically, cyberpunk looks featured bold silver glitters with coarse particles, evoking the essence of ‘iron.’ However, this season marks a shift towards cooler, funkier tones by incorporating Cobalt Blue and Icy Blue hues alongside pale pearlescent white silvers. Minimal application of black eyeliner and mascara directs focus towards the blue tones, allowing the eyes to remain the centerpiece without needing delicately defined cheek contours. Cream-based shadows impart a moist texture to enhance the metallic allure, subtly highlighting the eye area with the product’s inherent shimmer to create depth and dimension. Applying glitter powders to the inner corners and the central areas of the eyelids further captures the metallic sparkle. The evolution of the millennial vibe in makeup—from Silver Core to Blue Core—continues to steer towards increasingly futuristic expressions.
5. Double-Ended Smoky Eye
Sergio Hudson, NY
Asiyam, Australia
FDS The Innovators, Australia
From the Fall/Winter '24 Collection to the '25 Resort Collection, the smoky eye makeup trend has maintained its steady presence. However, unlike the past, where eyeshadows reminiscent of rock bands dominated the eyelids with vivid colors, this season’s look eschews vibrant hues entirely. This results in a distinctive eye makeup style that veers from everyday wearability. The eyeliner is meticulously shaped into a seagull wing, and the upper and lower lash lines are densely smudged with Deep Black tones. Departing from the classic gradient techniques traditionally associated with smoky eyes, this iteration achieves depth by adjusting the intensity of a single color palette or employing thicker eyeliners to broaden the eye area. This evolution suggests that the retro influences of the Y2K and Y3K eras have not faded but have instead been refined, heralding a resurgence of the smoky eye with a modern twist. Unlike the earlier smoky looks that blended blacks and greys, this season’s approach is more streamlined and contemporary. If the traditional smoky eye is characterized by its ‘surface’ haze, this new style embodies a ‘line-based’ precision, aligning more with a maximalist vibe in eye makeup. To complement the emphasized smoky eyes, the lips are adorned with a subdued Peach Beige rose nude tone, striking a harmonious balance.
6. Wispy Bang
Gucci, London
Viktoria & Woods, Australia
Madre Natura, Australia
This resort season, the forefront of hair trends is dominated by various ‘bang’ styles, including the sheer bang, Burkin bang, and soft full bang. The interplay between hair and makeup trends is evident, with the enduring influence of retro aesthetics in makeup giving rise to 1990s-inspired bang hairstyles. Unlike meticulously styled hair, the current trend favors a slightly tousled and natural texture. Contrary to traditional methods, where the volume of bangs creates a more sculpted facial structure, this season’s bangs do not emphasize pronounced volume. Instead of layered bangs cascading along the face, the angles between the front and back of the bangs are distinctly visible, and the hair color leans towards natural hues rather than artificial dyes. This emphasis on natural styling is further complemented by makeup that eschews bold colors and textures in favor of a simple, understated finish.
