Introducing the columns written by member of Amorepacific Group

Amorepacific Premium Makeup Team

Hello. I'm Shawn Jung from the Premium Makeup Team. In this column, I'll give a look at the event titled Makeup Artist in Seoul held late last month. Beginning in 2015, this year marked the 3rd of Makeup Artist in Seoul. It lasted for a week in Signature Camp, attended by 29 LANEIGE makeup artists, BAs and makeup trainers from 9 countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea.

The purpose of this event is to help LANEIGE makeup artists (including BA and trainers) develop their makeup skills and improve the quality of the service through a training program with the help of the Premium Makeup Team. It is a meaningful time for makeup artists coming from different countries as they get to learn about the latest K-beauty trends, study the markets and communicate with each other as members of the same brand, though it is held only once a year. This year was an especially great chance to take a look at not only K-beauty, but also regional trends through the presentation by makeup artists on the latest makeup trend in their country.

# 2017 K-beauty trend : Juicism makeup look

Juicism makeup is a big trend this year in Korea. It is a lively makeup look infused with the freshness of a sweet fruit juice. In this year's Makeup Artist in Seoul, the Juicism makeup was the most important practice and portfolio makeup look of makeup artists.

Koh Youngeun from the Premium Makeup Team introduced the Juicism makeup trend through demonstration and shared her makeup technique and know-how. During her demonstration, makeup artists sped their pen to learn and soak up her technique of the hottest K-beauty trend today.

# Personal portfolio photography

After the demonstration, makeup artists practiced what they learned. And during the practice session, they were able to learn about K-beauty techniques through Q&A and 1:1 feedback with makeup artists from the Premium Makeup Team. At the end of session, they did makeup on professional models and created their own portfolio full of great photos with the help of hair designers and photographers.

# Makeup trends & brands from around the world

Makeup artists shared makeup trends and news about local brands in their countries. Such information is surely found online, but it was more interesting and reliable coming from makeup artists. (In fact, the Premium Makeup Team heard similar things from local customers when we were there on business.)

Now, here are some famous cosmetics brands, artists, celebrities and the latest makeup trends around the world.

Taiwan

Taiwan is largely influenced by Japanese culture and trends. And, in this context, blush under the eyes also known as hangover makeup is a very common sight. In addition, Taiwanese women prefer skincare and makeup that makes their skin looking brighter and fair, thinking that they have yellowish undertone.
  • The makeup artist Kevin who became popular after appearing on local beauty TV shows including Queen and In Style

  • Szu Chi Yu called as the Taiwanese Makeup Venus who directs makeup for famous celebrities

Singapore

Singapore is a multicultural and multiracial nation with diverse makeup trends. At the moment, makeup look in shades of the color red such as dusty rose is all the fashion along the Western trends influenced by Western YouTube vloggers.

Malaysia

Malaysia has beauty trends as diverse as its culture, like Singapore. Semi-permanent beauty procedure is highly developed and it's easy to see women wearing semi-permanent makeup over eyebrows, eyelashes and even lips. Biracial makeup look bringing out the Western facial features is quite big in the beauty scene, not to mention K-beauty makeup with straight eyebrows, flawless bright skin and gradient lip makeup. Moreover, makeup matching hijabs for a more sophisticated modern look is all the mode, reflecting the many local women who wear a hijab.

Indonesia

In Indonesia where the glamorous makeup look is preferred by most women, Western style makeup wields a strong influence.
  • Halal cosmetics brand, Wardah

  • Famous Indonesian YouTube beauty vlogger Abel Cantika

Vietnam

Vietnamese women prefer a natural look over a heavy makeup look. As the weather is very hot and many drive a motorcycle to work, they are not in favor of glowing skin. But, straight eyebrows and matte finish lipstick are in style just as in other countries.
  • Famous Vietnamese singer and actress Minh Hang

Thailand

Thai customers seek oil-control products. That's because of the hot and humid climate of Thailand. They do not like any skincare products that leave a sticky feeling. It's obvious that they prefer a semi-matte makeup look. I add a light coat of powder over BB Cushion when I go to Thailand.

In Thailand, bold red lips are thought as beauty classic and here as well, straight eyebrows are growing popular under the influence of K-beauty. But, the only difference is that Thai women create bold style straight eyebrows.
  • Mistine, a brand very much famous with Thai makeup artists

  • Srichan, Thai brand known for a powder compact

China

  • In China, straight eyebrows are called as shooting star brows as they look a lot like the bright path of shooting stars across the sky.

In the midst of rapid changes, Chinese women express their desire for living simply and slowly through makeup. That's why the so-called lazy makeup is all the rage with Chinese women. During my business trip, I saw customers using only skincare products and a few colors in contrast to those wearing heavy makeup.
  • Cosmetics brand, MGPIN, launched by a local makeup artist

Hong Kong

Due to the high humidity, glowing skin was lost in Hong Kong, but it's now drawing attention from more and more women; perhaps it's thanks to the growing popularity of Korean TV series. And unlike other countries, there is great interest in male makeup.
  • Sammi Cheng from Hong Kong already famous with many of LANEIGE makeup artists

Through one-week Makeup Artist in Seoul, LANEIGE makeup artists shared not only makeup trends from around the world, but also Makeup Artist Promotion Guide as the standard of makeup show held in LANEIGE shops all across the globe. They also made a Face Chart to study the makeup concepts and good color combinations. As they said with great satisfaction, Makeup Artist in Seoul was great unusual experience to learn and practice K-beauty makeup techniques and make a personal portfolio. I'd like to ask for your support and encouragement for the Premium Makeup Team as we prepare training programs through thorough preparation and useful curriculum for global LANEIGE makeup artists.
